HTC Gratia Review

We know the world is getting smaller and smaller day by day, be it in literal sense or the figurative sense. With enormous amount of information being transmitted and received simultaneously in the present world, Smartphones have played a key role for providing information at your fingertips. True to its nature with the advancement in technology world has really become a flat place to live in. So how about owning a compact, powerful, erstwhile designed gadget?? Well, that’s HTC Gratia for you, Guys.

This sleek and compact android phone is all set to provide a unique mix of experience to its users. Gratia was released on 18th October, 2010 and features a seamless performance to all its users since then. It also bodies forth the acclaimed HTC Sense experience, which makes you stand away from the crowd by providing unexpected features and keep you happy at every moment in your life. Way to go!

With more and more android phones hitting the market with the most common feature being big screen size, HTC Gratia is for those people who want to own a capable android in a small handy design. Wow!!! Now that’s what we mean by addressing to every customer need. Powerful android in a small sturdy phone. Now who would have ever thought of it? Well, HTC did.

Let’s start off with the design review

Gratia Design

HTC Gratia is an exception to all Android phones with bigger displays. The HTC Gratia comes with a pretty good display size of 3.2” with viewing angles being limited. The display supports bright and good colours. The legibility of the screen is very poor as compared to other smartphones.

HTC Gratia is truly an attention seeker when it comes to its design. Measuring about 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.7mm, the design is sleek and elegant and the edges are subdued. This petite droid mainly focuses on the pocket-ability factor and weighs roughly around 115 grams. The keys are placed in standard locations, as in every android. The main keys being – Home, Menu, Back and Search. HTC Gratia also sports a clickable trackpad. The front portion of the phone also includes an ear piece and a LED status on the top left. Blinking red would mean the phone is charging and green indicates the charged battery. Blinking of green light indicates that the there is an unread notifications, be it, miss call or messages. The matte plastic used for the back cover helps in hiding the fingerprints. And talking about the 4 metallic screws, makes HTC Gratia stand out of all smartphones at present.

The volume keys are placed on the left and surprisingly the right side of HTC gratia has no keys nor do they have any Plug-in ports. The 3.5 mm audio jack and the power key is featured on the top and the bottom of the phone embodies a microphone and a microUSB port.

Gratia Hardware

The phone comes with a built in 512 MB ROM and 348 MB RAM and a default external memory of 2 GB. This can be further extended upto 32 GB. HT is powered by a 600 Mhz ARM11 processor with Adreno 200 GPU and Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset for a better performance.

The Box
HTC Gratia uses probably the most effective packaging style. I can say there is optimal utilization of the space and it is evident upright once you open the box. In there you find a one-piece headset, a sleek charger and a microUSB cable. And for those craving for memory space, the box also includes a 2GB microSD card to start off with.

Display
HTC Gratia sports a small screen size as compared to its android competitors of the same range. But this would not mean it’s a disadvantage or less value for the money you have paid. However Gratia’s display boasts of the bright and colourful display it offers to its customers. With legibility being an issue, it’s become a real problem for business people who are always on the move with their smartphones.

Battery
The HTC Gratia is powered by a 1200mAh Li-Ion battery, and supports 7 hours of talk time and 15 days of standby. Now this performance of the battery also depends on the type of network being used. i.e. in 2G the battery consumption will be less as compared to 3G.

Camera

The HTC Gratia is integrated with a 5 Megapixel camera at the back and can take pictures for maximum resolution of 2592 x 1952 pixels. But it is very disappointing that the camera is not supported by a flash and also a dedicated shutter key is missing. But the camera unit does not seem to be up to the mark. The pictures looks as if it has lost detail and the clarity or the fine details in the picture are almost vanished. The camera is been a serious worry for the HTC Gratia’s product head. Hope they work over it as soon as possible.

Connectivity

HTC Gratia is equipped with quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE to ensure voice and data connectivity. This is to address the connectivity when in abroad and also within the country. The local connectivity is achieved through the standard Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 with AD2P.
The connectivity with a computer can be achieved through a microUSB cable. Sync software or HTC’s PC Suite is very essential for data transmission.

HTC Gratia Software

The HTC Gratia runs 2.2 version of Android commonly called as the Froyo. The Sense UI adds value addition to the operating system as well as the Gratia. A user can have atmost seven home screens. Each screen offers different wallpaper with a different set of widgets on that particular home screen.

Gratia UI

The user interface in the Gratia is powered by the sense UI and is much known for its ability to offer 7 home screens based on the situation. For e.g. the homescreen can represent work, social networking, travel, play etc.

Now let us just sneak peek into the leap view feature, i.e. with a pinch gesture you can have all your 7 home screens displayed at one go. Wow!!! Now this is very interesting, thumbnails of your homescreens. But the saddest part being, not able to arrange your home screens.

The homescreen is marked by the presence of various widgets and here comes the interesting part. Most of the HTC Gratia widgets come with a minimum of two styles. So get your widget set according to the theme set. Below is a video from gsmarena showing full beauty of Gratia’s UI

Default Apps

The HTC Gratia is bombarded with a variety of office applications, the most prominent one being the Quick Office application which features Word, Excel and PowerPoint. There is also a PDF reader to view and edit the PDF files. All these office tools perform seamlessly on accessing and viewing. But editing requires you to go for an paid upgraded version.

The other common but important applications are the clock app, the calendar app, the alarm app and the notification app. The calendar app basically has 4 types of view: daily, weekly, monthly and agenda.

For those into social media and staying in touch with their pals, HTC Gratia also comes with Facebook and the Peep apps. These applications are integrated with the phonebook contacts. i.e. the user need not open the application to check his friend’s status.

And for those of you who tweet, here is a good new even for you. The Peep application allows the user to send the recently clicked photo with the tweet. And here comes the most surprising part, the application also shortens the links.

So what’s in the box for the professionals in HTC Gratia. Well well, If I am not wrong, Gratia is the only smartphone which comes with a Car Panel App. This app makes the icons bigger for ease of availability of applications while driving, it also helps in marking the location where the car was parked. So it’s time to bid a good bye to your memories on where you have parked your car.

Players

The music player also features a cool 3D effect on the now playing screen. But what was important were some unique features which the users had not expected. Clearly I feel its a complete no no for the music player. It also needs the product head to address on the issues like no equalizer, no option for changing the skins etc.

The Gratia features the most basic model of video player which is capable of playing 3gp and mp4 video formats. Well this is clearly a disadvantage, as the videos need to be converted to any of the above formats before watching it on this sleek machine.

The FM radio player also comes with a basic interface. Supported by loudspeaker playback and the RDS, it’s easier and is definitely a companion for those who are always on the move.

Browser

The web browser used in Gratia, Froyo web browser is probably the best web browser in the world. It has almost removed off the +/-zoom buttons and relies on its new pinch zooming. It also functions the basic operations like bookmarking, refresh, switch tabs, go forward, go back etc.

HTC Sensation XL Reviews

Hardware

Surely MOST of you will know about the HTC Sensation, HTC Which was prized horse in the dual-core race of the past. As recent as That may sound, Those Were the olden days and you will find dual-core processors nowadays under every rock you can pick. Hence, HTC HAS refreshed flagship icts with a larger screen and a zippier processor. And what a beauty That screen is. Although the tech used in this display is none other than the SuperLCD That You Have come to love and adore about the Sensation and the Incredible S just order the size Seems to add to this wonder of display. There is no doubt in our mind That this display is Perhaps the only competitor in the market HAS SuperAMOLED and Its safe to say que les competition is very very close. Besides by the display, the hardware is your run-of-the-mill HTC superhone with impeccable engineering and nothing new to talk about. Another notable thing is we all know That HTC has-been a little stingy on internal storage, but on this device HTC has gone all out to include a 16GB of internal memory. Also included is an excellent 8MP camera That was above average ability of taking pictures yet not in the same realm as the Galaxy S II. Other specifications can be found in the complete list below.

Software
This device comes preloaded with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with Sense 3.5 on top of it. This device is not HTC's Sense 3.5 second device with the Effective HTC Explorer. The software Has an overall feeling of zippiness Which is even we must say: slightly better than the Galaxy S II, Which is to say a lot since the Galaxy S II is without doubt the fastest Android smartphone, or maybe it was. The UI is much less intrusive than Sense 3.0 Which is a good thing. A notable addition in terms of the presence of sofware is Beats Audio. We include this section in the software since the Beats audio setting is basically setting year equilizer That Gives you above average sound with the Sensation XL with the specified earpieces in tow. We must say que le sound quality with above average Does Become the Beats addition we aim Would like to know users out That you can just as well get the same qualtiy on your original Sensation using third party equalizer goal Apps Those apps are no free. Also the headphones with the device Provided are a much better quality than the stock offering, so overall, the devcie is a good bargain for you buck.

Initial Impressions
The Sensation XL is HTC's new flagship truly and will be on top of Undoubtedly all HTC fans' list. The device HAS truly amazing display, the latest version of Sense and Beats Audio. Out of all the devices Within icts range, the biggest factor That It will come down to Between this device and the 1.5 GHz version of Samsung's flagship HTC's Sense Would Be UI. The call quality in the device is above average and it does not miss out on signals Where its not Supposed To. This is an ideal device for someone who is new to HTC and wants to know what pinnacle of HTC's engineering and software.

HTC Sensation Reviews

Introduction:
While reviewing another Android handset, We Were in a bar in London having a drink with some friends When a girl commented on our phone saying she liked our HTC. We replied with a polite "It's actually not an HTC, though it Does Android run." "Well, If It Is not HTC year, it's an iPhone, is not it?" she said, to Which We pulled a face, she walked off and we never saw her again. This little anecdote sums up how successful HTC has-beens in making icts name synonymous with Android, at least in Europe. Of late however, HTC's handsets and tablets Have Been consistently good, just, not great. SPECIFICALLY, S Their ranks Offered some refined elements, purpose lacked wow factor, while the HTC Flyer Delivered functions on, a goal lacked Both dual-core processor and Honeycomb. With arguably better handsets and tablets Being Offered by other manufacturers, HTC needed something better than good to ward off the competition, They needed something sensational. So here it is, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with a qHD screen and HTC Sense 3.0 atop Gingerbread - the HTC Sensation.

Design:
Feature. This Would be our word of choice to sum up the HTC Sensation's design. From the bevelled glass display through to the aluminum construction, the word is metaphorically lathered all over this phone. While the Samsung Galaxy S II refunded across the board in our review, except for icts uninspiring design, off the bat, we're smitten with the HTC Sensation's look and feel. You can compare the HTC Sensation with Many other phones using our Size Visualization Tool.

Display:
The display on the HTC Sensation is a qHD (540x960) Super LCD with a Gorilla Glass fascia, measuring in at 4.3 ". Pixel density It offers Greater than WVGA screens of the same size the Such as Samsung Galaxy S II and a longer 16 9 aspect ratio. The glass fascia aussi bevelled, with a smooth raise Towards the edges. We definitely appreciate the HTC Sensation's aspect ratio When viewing movie happy or using the phone one handed in portrait orientation thanks to it Being narrower. The pixel density is When aussi noticeably better web browsing Which is another plus. So while Super AMOLED Plus screens are more desirable Generally, the HTC Sensation still looks immense Especially Offering great head on with good color brightness and contrast levels. Unfortunately, viewing angles can be likened to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, with colors tending to look a bit washed out When tilting the phone to the side, head on DESPITE a great experience.

Going beyond and just keeps on giving HTC. The handset is predictably solid Itself Being Partially made of aluminum, sitting comfortably in the hand with good weighting and an attractive design. The four capacitive buttons below the screen are nuzzled Towards the end fascia's lower against the bevelled glass, while the front-facing camera, light sensor and in-call speaker above the screen binds along with HTC insignia year. Tothe left side is a volume rocker and microUSB port up top lies the power button and audio jack and is below the battery cover release button. The 8MP camera, dual LED flash, loud speaker and microphone 2nd decorate all the HTC Sensation's reverse Which is styled with a trademark three shade soft touch backing.

Battery cover:
The battery cover is like a suit of armor, encasing everything other than the glass facia. When we think about the fear we experience When taking off the delicate yet super-slim Samsung Galaxy S II battery cover, this is the total opposite, Delivering a cohesive styling, secure backing and even more solid year feel to the HTC Sensation. Another plus point of the back cover is all encasing scratches. A scratch anywhere other than the Gorilla Glass fascia and you can simply purchase a new back cover.

As we Said very early on, we're smitten with the look and feel of the HTC Sensation. Its design is interesting yet accessible icts feel is solid yet manageable, and while icts screen is good, if not great, the little touches Such as the bevelled Gorilla Glass and aspect ratio along separate it from the crowd in a good way. It's definitely more sporting character than the Samsung competition, goal caries more bulk. Which is the better choice? While the screen quality may not be as good and It Is not anywhere near as thin or light, When It Comes To design, the HTC Sensation HAS definitely more flare and feels more solid.

HTC Wildfire S Reviews

Asia's second largest smartphone maker, HTC, throws its Wildfire S (promo video posted below) into the entry-level ring, hoping to attract users with its stylish design and premium user experience.

Design
This sturdily constructed and robust HTC Wildfire S is extremely comfortable to hold and almost unnoticeable in your pocket, as it measures in at a 101.3 x 59.4 x 12.4 mm, and weighs a mere 105 g. Its ivory coloured plastic look is nicely contrasted by a silver soft touch plastic finish around the smartphone's edges and camera, much like HTC's Flyer tablet. This allows it to come across as a more stylish and upmarket device than the rather plain black design of the Samsung Galaxy Gio.

The smartphone boasts a 3.2 "(320 x 480 pixels, 180 ppi pixel density) TFT capacitive touchscreen, which is much better that the previous Wildfire's 3.2" (240 x 320 pixels) display. It also features Gorilla Glass, which provides extra protection as well as durability - a really impressive feature on a budget-friendly device.

Like the Samsung Galaxy Gio's display sports some really good viewing angles and nicely saturated colours. This isn't very surprising as it sports the same display size, type and resolution as the budget entry from Samsung. Like its Korean counterpart, the Wildfire S is also privy to displaying reflections when used outdoors in direct sunlight.

Sensible skin
You employ that vibrant and responsive dispay to navigate the device's operating system (OS), which in this case is Google's latest Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with HTC's Sense 2.1 skin running atop of it (same as on theDesire S).

We are avid fans of the company's Sense interface that flies between integrated social feeds, the best apps arrangement in the business and intuitive accessibility to numerous functions, all while still retaining Android's familiarity. Another aspect that's worth highlighting is HTC's widgets, which are gorgeous in their design and incredibly practical in terms of their user friendliness.

Our only real gripe with the device concerning its usability is that this interface requires some oomph in terms of processing power, because of the graphical nature of the widgets. HTC has opted to power this device with a 600 MHz Snapdragon MSM7227 CPU (old Wildfireused a 528 MHz CPU), with the graphics being handled by an Adreno 200 GPU and 512 MB RAM (418 MB user-available).

Unlike with the HTC ChaCha that packs a 800 MHz processor, the interface was noticeably laggy on occasion, which was kind of annoying and does detract from the coolness factor that this fantastic skin brings to this budget smartphone.

Samsung's Galaxy Gio offers a much better processing performance with its Qualcomm's QCT MSM7227-1 Turbo 800 MHz processor. Its Smartbench 2011 Productivity Index score of 577 and Games Index score of 977, managed to beat both the HTC ChaCha (361 and 516 respectively) and HTC's Wildfire S (331 and 736 respectively) during tests.

Other features
Other than its underwhelming processor, users can employ the Wildfire S's 5 MP auto-focus camera with LED flash to capture some good-looking, but not extraordinary photos. This snapper doesn't enable you to record HD-Ready (720p) videos, which seems to have become in-vogue with a lot of manufacturers of late, but can record VGA video at 24 fps. Whilst the level of detail and frame rate is much better than the video quality that the Samsung Galaxy Gio's snapper delivers, it's definitely not the smoothest, since it's still partial to some jerkiness.

Also onboard is 3G HSDPA, GPS with a-GPS support, Wi-Fi 802.11 n, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR, and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 32 GB in size, with a 2 GB card included in the box .
